Box Plot with Sample Data, Mean and Whiskers
This tutorial will show how to use the box-whisker graph in TechGraph Editor to calculate mean and whisker values from a column of sample data. Shown below are the settings in the Data Table and the Edit Chart used to create this chart.
Data Table – Sample data can easily be changed or replaced by pasting data from an external worksheet.
- Graph Type is Box-Whisker.
- X Data Type is Label. Data in X Column entries are ignored.
- Graph A contains data for “Control”.
- Graph B contains data for “1 hour”.
- Graph C contains data for “10 hours”.
- Graph D contains data for “24 hours”.
Note: Click on the “Help” button on the toolbar to find out how to edit, delete, copy and paste in the Data Table.
Edit Chart – A set of icons (Titles, Settings, Y Axis, Box-Whisker ) to change the settings and appearance of the chart.
Settings – specify the style of markers and box whisker for Graph A, B, C and D.
- Enter legend entry for Graph A, B, C and D. The legend text is used as labels for X Axis. For this example, “Control” is legend text for A, “1 hour” for B, “10 hours” for C and “24 hours” for D.
- Select “None” for Legend Placement. The legend text for Graph A, B, C and D are placed below the X Axis.
- Click on the Graph Stylefor Graph A to show the Style for Graph A pop-up. Use the Color, Fill, Pattern and Thickness to set the error bar style. Use the Color, Type and Size for markers. Click on Apply to save the changes. Repeat this step for Graph B, C and D.
Y axis
- Enter values in Minimum, Maximum and Major Div to set the Y Axis scale and divisions. Leave these values empty for automatic scaling.
- The values for this example are Minimum= 0, Maximum =120 and Major Div = 6.
Box-Whisker
- Check Box checkbox to display the whisker box for each column.
- Check Data Sample, Mean and Whiskers checkboxes. Mean, lower and upper values of the whisker box are calculated from the sample data.
Edit Chart Toolbar Options
- Print Chart prints your chart.
- Download Image downloads your chart as an SVG(Scalable Vector Graphics) file or image file(PNG, JPEG, TIF, PDF).
- Drawing Objects customize your chart with labels, lines, arrows, circles, images, and logos.
