Two Survival Curves with Censored Points as “Up” Ticks
This tutorial will show how to use the TechGraph Editor to plot data from a survival table using connecting lines in a staircase pattern. Two survival curves are shown in this example. Survival probability values are entered as values between 0% and 100%. Locations for censored points are entered as “error value” and will be shown as “Up” ticks. Shown below are the settings in the Data Table and the Edit Chart used to create this chart.
Data Table – Sample data can easily be changed or replaced by pasting data from an external worksheet.
- Graph Type is Combo.
- X Data Type is Number. X Data column contains the X values as Days.
- Graph A series is set to Line and it contains the survival values (Control) for the first curve.
- Graph B series is set to Scatter. Enter “3” as error value at the location where the censored point is to be shown for Graph A. Note the error value defines the height of the ‘Up” ticks.
- Graph C series is set to Line and it contains the survival values (Treated) for the second curve.
- Graph D series is set to Scatter. Enter “3” as error value at the location where the censored point is to be shown for Graph C. Note the error value defines the height of the ‘Up” ticks.
Note: Click on the “Help” button on the toolbar to find out how to edit, delete, copy and paste in the Data Table.
Edit Chart – A set of icons (Titles, Settings, X Axis, Y Axis, Curves and Error Bars) to change the settings and appearance of the chart.
Settings – specify the line style for Graph A and C.
- Click on the “Turquoise line” (Graph Style) to show the line Style for Graph A pop-up. You can change the Color, Thickness and Type for Graph A line. Click on Apply to save the changes.
- Click on the “DarkOrange line” (Graph Style) to show the line Style for Graph C pop-up. You can change the Color, Thickness and Type for Graph C line. Click on Apply to save the changes.
- Check Staircase Line and Ignoring Missing Data checkboxes.
X Axis
- Enter values in Minimum, Maximum and Major Div to set the X Axis scale and divisions. Leave these values empty for automatic scaling.
- The values for this example are Minimum = 0, Maximum = 250, Major Div = 5.
Y axis
- Enter values in Minimum, Maximum and Major Div to set the Y Axis scale and divisions. Leave these values empty for automatic scaling.
- The values for this example are Minimum = -10, Maximum = 110, Major Div = 2, Minimum Start = 0 and Maximum Start = 100.
Curves & Error Bars
- Select “Error Bar On” from Error Bar list for Graph A.
- Click on “Up” (Error Bar Format) for Graph B. For this example, “Up“ is selected from the Error Bar Format list . Checkbox for Error Caps On is unchecked. Color (“Black”) is selected for the error bar color. Use the Thickness selection list to change the line style. Click on Apply to save the changes.
- Repeat the above steps for Graph C and D.
Edit Chart Toolbar Options
- Print Chart prints your chart.
- Download Image downloads your chart as an SVG(Scalable Vector Graphics) file or image file(PNG, JPEG, TIF, PDF).
- Drawing Objects customize your chart with labels, lines, arrows, circles, images, and logos.
